Traditional Guayusa

Guayusa, (pronounced "Why- u-sa" as in "Why you sa happy?  Why U sa sexy?) from Ecuador.  A stimulating herb, that when steeped, provides a natural sense of energy, focus and heightened concentration. With a gentle leafy taste, it is pleasing for the palate as well as up lifting for the body!

Traditionally, indigenous Amazonian families wake up together at dawn to drink guayusa. They sit by the communal fire drinking gourds of guayusa until sunrise. During this time, the village elders teach the youth about ancestral myths, hunting techniques, social values, and about what it means to be “Runa” in the indigenous cosmo-vision. The guayusa ritual continues to be a cornerstone of Kichwa culture, a practice that brings the family and community together around the simple experience of drinking tea.
